OPA Senior Analyst Deanna Sablan Earns CIA Designation

The Institute of Internal Auditors issued its prestigious Certified Internal Auditor designation to Deanna Atalig Castro Sablan on January 20, 2006.

The CIA designation is the only globally accepted certification for internal auditors and remains the standard by which individuals demonstrate their competence and professionalism in the internal auditing field. The designation is awarded to audit professionals who have met the rigorous requirements of the Institute’s Certified Internal Auditor program, which includes a four-part examination, high standards of character, education, and experience.

Sablan passed the last part of the CIA examination in November 2005, excelling among 21,000 candidates at 276 examination sites in 85 countries. The CNMI House of Representatives recognized in March 2006 Sablan’s achievement through a special House Resolution, noting that Sablan’s achievement “brings pride and distinction to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.”

A graduate from the California State University in Fresno with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Sablan joined the CNMI Office of the Public Auditor as an analyst in June 2003 and was promoted to Senior Analyst in 2005. She began her professional career at the Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation, Ltd. where she worked from 1997 to 1999. Prior to joining OPA, Sablan taught for the CNMI Public School System from 1999 to 2003.

Sablan is the daughter of proud parents Mr. Joaquin Quichocho Castro and Mrs. Margarita Atalig Castro. She is married to Philip Guerrero Sablan, with whom they have three sons: Jordan, Reece, and Nathaniel.
